CSU Guitar Students Again Win 1st, 2nd at Symposium's International Competition

The CSU Guitar Symposium recently completed its 19th year of performances, classes, and competitions for performers at all levels. For the second consecutive year, a Schwob undergraduate student has won the competition. Ying Xu won 1st prize from a field of 60 competitors from around the world. 2nd prize went to Schwob artist diploma student Agustin Rosado. Last year, CSU students Dragos Ilie and Ying Xu won 1st and 2nd prizes respectively out of 50 competitors in their division. All are students of Dr. Andrew Zohn who holds the Jo and George Jeter Distinguished Chair in Guitar.

Oboist Winner in Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition

Eder Rivera, fourth-year student of Dr. Susan Tomkiewicz at the Schwob School of Music, was named one of the winners in the 2018 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition. Open to instrumentalists ages 18-22, the Yamaha Competition requires video and audio recordings that are judged on their musicality, expression, and tone quality. Eder was one of ten instrumentalists selected to receive an all-expense-paid trip to the YYPA Celebration Weekend, held in Muncie, IN at the Music for All Summer Symposium. Congratulations, Eder!
