Dr. Ianthe Marini named Interim Choral Director

Dr. Ianthe Marini has been named Interim Director of Choral Activities for 2017-18, following the retirement of Professor Constantina Tsolainou, the Paul and Jean Amos Faculty Chair in Music.

Dr. Marini holds the Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Maryland where she studied with Edward Maclary and James Ross.  She was the recipient of the Pomeroy Prize for scholarship and performance in 17th and 18th century music, the only award given to a graduate student at the UMD School of Music.  She served as the first female director of the University of Maryland Men's Chorus.  In the fall of 2015, Marini prepared the University of Maryland Chamber Singers for performance with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in a complete performance of Handel's Messiah under the direction of Maestro Nathalie Stutzmann.  In the Spring of 2016, she prepared the Chamber Singers for a performance of the a cappella choral music of Scottish composer James MacMillan under his own baton at the Kennedy Center.  In the Winter of 2015, she prepared the University of Maryland Concert Choir for a performance with the National Symphony Orchestra Pops under the direction of Maestro Steven Reineke at the Kennedy Center, and in the fall of 2016, she prepared the UMD Men's Chorus for a performance with the Baltimore Symphony Super Pops under the direction of Maestro Jack Everly.
