Schwob Students Excel at 2016 MTNA State Competition

Columbus State students won most of the top categories at the recent Music Teachers National Association state competition held at Mercer University.

Congratulations to the following students who were invited to advance from the state to the regional level:
  • Young Artist Composition: Dalian Bryan, Winner (student of Dr. James Ogburn)
  • Young Artist Piano: Allen Yueh, Winner (student of Alexander Kobrin)
  • Young Artist Strings: Weiru Sheng, Winner (violin student of Sergiu Schwartz)
  • Young Artist Woodwinds: Victor Hernandez, Winner (flute student of Dr. Andree Martin)
  • Young Artist Voice: Jonathan Burns (voice student of Dr. Michelle DeBruyn)
The following students also were recognized in their divisions.
  • Young Artist Brass: Stephen Clayton, Alternate (bass trombone student of Dr. Brad Palmer)
  • Young Artist Piano: Alexey Trushechkin, Alternate; Anna Vertypolokh,  Honorable Mention (students of Alexander Kobrin)
  • Young Artist Strings: Natalya Klenovskaya, Alternate (violin student of Sergiu Schwartz)
  • Young Artist Woodwinds: Brennan Coffey, Alternate (clarinet student of Dr. Lisa Oberlander); Eder Rivera, Honorable Mention (oboe student of Dr. Susan Tomkiewicz); Jared Cummings, Honorable Mention (saxophone student of Dr. Joseph Girard)
