CSU bass trombonist places twice in national competitions

CSU sophomore Stephen Clayton, a bass trombone student of Dr. Brad Palmer, won second place in the National Solo Competition at the 2015 American Trombone Workshop in Washington DC. Stephen was first-place winner in the 18-and-under division in 2013. On the same trip to Washington, Stephen also competed as one of two finalists in the bass trombone audition for a position with the U.S. Air Force Ceremonial BrassCongratulations, Stephen!

Voice students excel at Georgia NATS auditions

Schwob Students Win, Place in Georgia MTNA competition

Students from the CSU Schwob School of Music had resounding success at the Georgia MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) competitions. First-place winners advance to the Southeast Regional Competition in Knoxville, TN.

Allison Webb, horn, a student of Professor Anna Dodd, was awarded first place in the Senior Division for Brass Performance.

The Columbus String Quartet, with Sophie Wang and McClaran Hayes, violins, Mario Rivera, viola, and Maxwell Frank, cello, were declared the winners in Chamber Music—Strings. They were coached by Professor Boris Abramov, and are students of Professors Sergiu Schwartz, Zoran Jakovcic, and Wendy Warner.

Brandon Dicks, a student of Dr. Matthew McCabe, was awarded first place in the Young Artist Division for Music Composition, for his work Light in a Crystallized Forest.

Ekaterina Logvinyuk, a student of Professor Alexander Kobrin, was awarded first place in the Young Artist Division for Piano Performance.

Weiru Sheng, violin, a student of Professor Sergiu Schwartz, was awarded first place in the Young Artist Division for String Performance.

Ashley Seldon, a student of Dr. Michelle DeBruyn, was awarded first place in the Young Artist Division for Voice Performance.

Adam Rogers, a student of Professor Earl Coleman, was awarded first place in the Senior Division for Voice Performance.

Shanshan Xie, a student of Professor Alexander Kobrin, was named alternate winner in the Young Artist Division for Piano Performance.

Ela Tokarska, violin, a student of Professor Sergiu Schwartz, was named alternate winner in the Senior Division for String Performance.

Julie Burns, a student of Dr. Michelle DeBruyn, was named alternate winner in the Young Artist Division for Voice Performance.

Maxwell Frank, cello, a student of Professor Wendy Warner, received honorable mention in the Young Artist Division for String Performance.

Alexandra Clay, flute, a student of Dr. Andrée Martin, received honorable mention in the Young Artist Division for Woodwind Performance.

Elston Peacock, a student of Professor Earl Coleman, received honorable mention in the Young Artist Division for Voice Performance.
