Online Ordering For "A Beautiful Noise" CD - Now Available

"A Beautiful Noise" is now available for purchase online. This recording is the result of a six-semester synergy between students, soloists, faculty members, composers, producers, engineers, and of course a business coordinator, facilities manager, and other staff. It was only through the hard work and dedication of all of these people, along with the vision of the administration of the Schwob School of Music and Columbus State University that this massive project came to fruition.

Recorded in Legacy Hall at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts,  friends of Schwob School and  local fans of classical music can be proud of this CD, produced right here in Columbus. "A Beautiful Noise" is currently receiving airplay on NPR and other radio stations around the country.

Southeast Trombone Symposium Returns in 2014

After taking a year off to host the International Trombone Festival here at Columbus State University, we are thrilled to bring the Southeast Trombone Symposium back in 2014 from June 24th to the 29th.

This very selective symposium caps the number of student participants at 48 and brings in faculty participants from nationally recognized symphonies; this year the STS faculty includes Colin Williams and Nathan Zgonc from the Atlanta Symphony, George Curran (bass trombonist of the New York Philharmonic, formerly of the ASO), CSU Professor of Trombone Bradley Palmer, and Craig Mulcahy , principal trombonist of the National Symphony Orchestra.

The weeks activities include master classes, faculty recitals, faculty orchestral excerpt classes with participants sitting in the section, trombone quartet and choir performances and much more.  Once again S. E. Shires company will provide two trombones, which will be given to the winners of our two competitions and Sheridan Brass and Hickeys Music will again give over $1000 worth of other prizes to finalists.

Please join our group on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube Channel to check out videos from 2012.  More information will be posted on the CSU Trombone Studio Website closer to the Symposium date.

CSU Trombone Ensemble Featured at This Summer's International Trombone Festival

A great deal of attention was given to planning the 42nd annual International Trombone Festival, which was hosted by the Schwob School of Music June 26-29th this summer. With 1,200 guests including participants, performers, and exhibitors, the economic impact of this festival was well over $600,00 for our Uptown area according to the Columbus Visitors Bureau. Pictures of the event can be found on the International Trombone Association Facebook Page.

Doctor Bradley Palmer conducted a performance of the Southeast Trombone Choir Professors Choir which included twenty eight professional musicians and trombone professors. The CSU Trombone Ensemble was a featured act, performing their world premier of a work that was commissioned for the trombone octet.

Trombone Choirs from twenty four US Colleges and Universities participated, including soloists from the Alabama Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony and New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, in addition to renowned international soloists. You can find out more about the International Trombone Festival on the ITA website.
